In late April we headed to Staffhurst Woods in east Surrey, which is now managed by Surrey County Council. This is one of the few ancient woodlands left, with oaks, beech and ash trees mingling with the target of our day out - bluebells! The UK is home to about half the worlds supply of bluebells (Hyacinthoides non-scripta), although the native English bluebell is now fighting off the Spanish variant.
You can find out more information about bluebells at the Bluebells for Britain website. My thanks to Keith Laban, who recommended Staffhurst Woods as a photography location.
