In 2007 I finally accepted an invitation to go hunting for boar and elk on an island off Estonia with some work colleagues. I was given a rifle (eek) and utterly failed to shoot when the opportunity presented itself due to the fact that the boar had two little piglets (boarlets?) running behind her. I have never been so scared as hearing the pitter patter of tiny hooves coming inexorably closer to me - boars are big creatures and dangerous when threatened. I think in future I'll stick to watching wildlife rather than trying to kill it! Still, the whole trip was amazing with fantastic hospitality. The forests were covered in a heavy frost and despite our reason for being there, it was very peaceful. The highlight may well have been eating roast boar and drinking a hot vodka based punch around a bonfire in the middle of the forest.
