Located a short fifteen drive from Lake Louise this is yet another picture perfect, beautifully coloured glacial lake. Like viewing temples in South East Asia, it's all too easy to become blase about seeing such vistas, especially as lakes like this seem to lurk around every corner in the Rockies! Unlike Lake Louise however there is no hulking hotel at the head of the lake, just a small hotel with a few rooms and a restaurant. You can rent kayaks on the lake, which is highly recommended. The water is beautifully clear, very cold (it does come from glaciers), and it's such a tranquil way to spend an afternoon. There is a 20km hike from Moraine Lake through the Valley of Ten Peaks to Lake Louise, but unfortunately we didn't have time for that one.
