Despite not having the most photographically friendly weather during our few days in Jasper, we were lucky enough to have one nice early morning. Rising early just after sunrise I jumped in the car and went exploring. We'd only arrived in Jasper the night before and I'd not done any research so I had no idea where to go, if there were scenic viewpoints etc, so I went with a general principle - head up! A mere ten minute drive from the town was the fantastic Patricia Lake shown here.As I arrived the first rays of light were just hitting Pyramid Mountain, the mist was rising from the lake, and elks were wandering round the road - this is what we travelled to Canada for! On the other side of Jasper are two further lakes (Annette and Edith). Neither get much of a mention in the guidebooks but both are well worth a visit. The wonderfully clear turquoise waters of Annette had us clicking the shutter again - we couldn't get enough of those lake reflections! Unfortunately Sarah didn't want to get up as early as me so missed the moment. I took her back around 10am but by then the light was completely flat and the scene wasn't quite as memorable.
