Located just 4km from the city centre and with over 350 species of wildlife on view, this award winning zoo makes for a great day out. Opened in 1862 is it now Australia's oldest Zoo and one of the city's top tourist attractions. The animals living quarters are spread out over 55 acres and connected using a myriad of criss-crossing paths, with all the animals being kept in surroundings which mimic their natural habitat. These habitats are grouped into two main distinctions - the African Rainforest for African species and the Bushland Exhibit for native Australian wildlife. Allow at least three hours for a thorough exploration of the Zoo. It's also worth planning your visit to catch some of the 'Meet The Keeper' sessions, and remember that some sections close early!
