SCUBA diving is a very popular activity with backpackers and Thailand provides many great diving locations, including Ko Tao, the last of the islands we visited. Much smaller than the previous two islands and more rocky but with gloriously clear water and more diving centres than you can shake a stick at, Ko Tao is a great place to learn SCUBA diving. Again, after recommendations from friends we opted for BANS Diving Centre and before long we were lounging beside the pool soaking up the sun. Everyone signed up for the introductory PADI course, which took three days to complete, after which Jaison and Sarah took the Advanced Open Water course too. I was unfortunately claustrophobic and couldn't dive so I spent those days reading and swimming instead. After the course our friendly Swedish instructor Jacob invited everyone to his house for a meal and to watch the video of the final dive which was highly amusing.
